Thrust (source code)

= Thrust

A propulsive <force> exerted on a body by an engine or another momentum-transfer mechanism. In a vehicle moving through a fluid, its direction need not coincide with the vehicle's actual <velocity>, and a transverse component can steer the motion. The component along the velocity contributes mechanical <power> $\mathbf T\cdot\mathbf v$; a purely transverse component changes direction without doing instantaneous work. <Rocket thrust> is one particular mechanism and includes momentum carried by expelled material.
