Multiplicative adjustment of an interaction vertex to cancel its <ultraviolet divergence>. In <scalar electrodynamics>, write the one-<photon> two-<scalar field> coefficient as $Z_1e$ and the scalar kinetic coefficient as $Z_2$. The <scalar QED Ward identity> gives $Z_1=Z_2$ in a symmetry-preserving <renormalization scheme>.
