This is somewhat what I was looking for: github.com/KaTeX/KaTeX/blob/main/contrib/mhchem/README.md
I'd prefer something that doesn't go through math, but it's not bad. We could also add a helper to hide the math part of it.
If there's ever enough interests from chemists I could try to enable it.

I haven't posted anything new in a while... I have learned a lot of new things.
When the exams are over I will surely share some stuff about organic chemistry and spectroscopy.
