Abdus Salam was a Pakistani theoretical physicist who made significant contributions to the field of particle physics. He was born on January 29, 1926, in Jhang, British India, and died on November 21, 1996. Salam is best known for his work in the unification of the weak force and electromagnetic interaction, for which he shared the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1979 with Sheldon Glashow and Steven Weinberg.
