Claude-Louis Navier (1785-1836) was a French engineer and physicist renowned for his contributions to fluid mechanics and solid mechanics. He is best known for formulating the Navier-Stokes equations, which describe the motion of viscous fluid substances, and for his work on elasticity theory. Navier's work laid the foundation for many areas of engineering and applied mathematics.
