Lyman Spitzer (1914–1997) was an American astrophysicist known for his significant contributions to the fields of astrophysics and astronomy, particularly in the study of stellar dynamics, interstellar medium, and the theory of star formation. He is also well-known for his advocacy and vision for space telescopes. One of his most notable contributions was the concept of a space-based observatory, which eventually led to the development of the Hubble Space Telescope.
