A shuttle vector is a type of vector used in molecular biology that can replicate and propagate in two different host organisms. Typically, shuttle vectors are designed to function in both prokaryotic (bacterial) cells, such as Escherichia coli, and eukaryotic (yeast or mammalian) cells.
