William Whewell (1794–1866) was an English polymath, philosopher, and historian of science. He made significant contributions to various fields, including philosophy, mathematics, and the history and philosophy of science. Whewell is perhaps best known for his work in the philosophy of science, particularly for coining the term "scientist" in 1833, which became a standard term to describe individuals engaged in scientific work.
