Lower Austria (Niederösterreich in German) is one of the nine federal states (Bundesländer) of Austria. It is located in the northeast part of the country and surrounds the capital city, Vienna. Despite its name, Lower Austria is the largest province in Austria by area. The state features a diverse landscape that includes part of the Vienna Woods, fertile plains, and the Danube River, which runs through it.
