William Floyd is a mathematician known for his contributions to computer science, particularly in the areas of algorithms and combinatorial optimization. He is perhaps best known for the Floyd-Warshall algorithm, which is an efficient method for finding shortest paths in a weighted graph with positive or negative edge weights (but no negative cycles). This algorithm is widely used in various applications, including network routing and urban traffic planning.
William Browder is an American mathematician known for his contributions to topology, particularly in the areas of algebraic topology and the theory of manifolds. He has made significant advances in various mathematical fields, particularly in homotopy theory and differential topology. Browder is also known for his work on the Browder surgery theory, which relates to the classification of manifolds.
Werner Gysin is not a widely recognized figure in public life or history, based on the information available up to October 2023. It's possible that he could be a private individual, a lesser-known professional, or a figure in a specific niche or context not broadly covered in mainstream sources.
Walther Mayer was an Austrian mathematician known for his work in the fields of differential geometry and mathematical physics, particularly related to Einstein's theory of relativity. He made significant contributions to the understanding of geometrical concepts and their applications in theoretical physics.
Walter Neumann could refer to various individuals, but one prominent figure is Walter Neumann, a mathematician known for his contributions to group theory and topology. He has published extensively on various mathematical topics and is known for his work in the field.
W. Stephen Wilson is a notable figure in the field of computer science and education. He is particularly recognized for his work in computational logic, artificial intelligence, and educational technology. He has played a significant role in integrating computer science into the educational curriculum and has contributed to the development of educational tools and resources. If you are referring to a specific aspect of W. Stephen Wilson's work or his contributions in a particular area, please provide more details.
W. B. R. Lickorish, commonly known as Bill Lickorish, is a mathematician known for his contributions to the field of topology, particularly in knot theory and 3-manifolds. He has authored numerous research papers and is recognized for his work on the properties of knots and links, as well as on other areas of geometry and topology. His work has had a significant impact on the understanding of the mathematical properties of complex spaces.
Vladimir Markovic is not a widely recognized figure in public knowledge up until October 2023; therefore, without additional context, it's unclear who specifically you are referring to. There are many individuals with that name across various fields, including academia, sports, and other professions.
Vladimir Antonovich Kovalevsky was a notable Russian biologist and paleontologist, best known for his work in the early 20th century. He made significant contributions to the fields of evolutionary biology, paleontology, and systematic zoology. Kovalevsky's research often focused on the study of ancient organisms and their evolutionary relationships. He is also known for his work related to the history of paleontology and for his efforts in publicizing scientific knowledge in Russia.
Victor Guillemin is a mathematician known for his contributions to various fields, particularly in differential geometry and mathematical analysis. He has worked extensively on topics related to complex variables, the theory of several complex variables, and several other areas in mathematics. Guillemin has made significant contributions to the understanding of the geometric properties of various mathematical structures, including those related to symplectic geometry and representation theory.
Victor Goryunov is a notable scientist and researcher, primarily recognized in the field of mathematics, specifically in the areas of nonlinear dynamics, mathematical physics, and applied mathematics. However, without additional context, it's difficult to provide specific details about his contributions or the aspects of his work that you might be interested in.
Victor Buchstaber is a prominent mathematician known for his work in the field of topology, particularly in algebraic topology and its applications. He has contributed to various areas, including homotopy theory and the study of topological groups. Buchstaber has also been involved in research related to the topology of manifolds and has published numerous papers and books throughout his career.
Verónica Martínez de la Vega is not a widely recognized figure as of my last update in October 2023, and there may be multiple individuals with that name.
Valentin Poénaru is a notable Romanian mathematician, recognized for his contributions to topology, particularly in the fields of knot theory and algebraic topology. He may be best known for his work in the study of 3-manifolds and for his collaborations with other mathematicians.
Ulrike Tillmann is a prominent mathematician known for her work in the fields of algebraic topology, homotopy theory, and representation theory. She has made significant contributions to the understanding of stable homotopy groups and mathematical techniques that involve the interplay between algebra and topology. Tillmann is also involved in mathematical education and outreach, promoting mathematics to a broader audience.
As of my last knowledge update in October 2021, Tudor Ganea is not a widely recognized public figure, concept, or entity. It is possible that he could be a private individual, or perhaps someone who has gained recognition or relevance after that date.
Tomasz Mrowka is a well-known mathematician, particularly noted for his work in the fields of topology and geometry. He has made significant contributions to mathematical research, particularly in the study of 3-manifolds and smooth structures. Mrowka is also recognized for his involvement in mathematical education and mentorship.
Tim Cochran could refer to multiple individuals, as it is not an uncommon name. Without additional context, it's challenging to pinpoint a specific person. If you're referring to a notable figure, it would be helpful to know more about their occupation or relevance, such as if they are involved in business, sports, or academia.

Pinned article: Introduction to the OurBigBook Project

Welcome to the OurBigBook Project! Our goal is to create the perfect publishing platform for STEM subjects, and get university-level students to write the best free STEM tutorials ever.
Everyone is welcome to create an account and play with the site: ourbigbook.com/go/register. We belive that students themselves can write amazing tutorials, but teachers are welcome too. You can write about anything you want, it doesn't have to be STEM or even educational. Silly test content is very welcome and you won't be penalized in any way. Just keep it legal!
We have two killer features:
  1. topics: topics group articles by different users with the same title, e.g. here is the topic for the "Fundamental Theorem of Calculus" ourbigbook.com/go/topic/fundamental-theorem-of-calculus
Articles of different users are sorted by upvote within each article page. This feature is a bit like:
    • a Wikipedia where each user can have their own version of each article
    • a Q&A website like Stack Overflow, where multiple people can give their views on a given topic, and the best ones are sorted by upvote. Except you don't need to wait for someone to ask first, and any topic goes, no matter how narrow or broad
This feature makes it possible for readers to find better explanations of any topic created by other writers. And it allows writers to create an explanation in a place that readers might actually find it.

  2. local editing: you can store all your personal knowledge base content locally in a plaintext markup format that can be edited locally and published either:
This way you can be sure that even if OurBigBook.com were to go down one day (which we have no plans to do as it is quite cheap to host!), your content will still be perfectly readable as a static site.
Figure 5. . You can also edit articles on the Web editor without installing anything locally.
