A hot, comparatively optically thin plasma region associated with an accretion flow. Thermal or nonthermal electrons can transfer energy to softer seed photons through inverse Compton scattering, producing a harder radiation component. Its geometry, heating and coupling to the cooler disc are model dependent; a hard radiation spectrum alone does not uniquely determine these properties.
