 Dimension jump in a smooth family of manifolds

Smoothness of every fibre in a parameterized family does not force their dimensions or tangent spaces to vary continuously with the parameter. A dimension jump can produce convergent tangent vectors whose limit is not tangent to the limiting fibre.
