 Disequilibrium chemistry in an exoplanet atmosphere

Atmospheric chemistry is out of equilibrium when reaction times exceed transport or photochemical times. Vertical quenching, ultraviolet photochemistry, and atmospheric escape can then maintain abundances far from local thermochemical equilibrium.
