Intermodal dispersion

ID: intermodal-dispersion

Intermodal dispersion is the temporal separation of components in different propagating normal modes because their group velocities differ. A pulse exciting several modes can therefore broaden even when its individual modal components have negligible bandwidth. It is distinct from group velocity dispersion within a single mode.
