Method of moments (probability theory)

ID: method-of-moments-probability-theory

If all moments of real random variables converge to those of a moment-determinate limit law, then the variables converge to that law in the sense of convergence in distribution. Moment determinacy is essential; the standard normal distribution meets this condition.
The Method of Moments is a technique in probability theory and statistics used for estimating the parameters of a probability distribution by equating sample moments to theoretical moments derived from the distribution.
