 Minimal polynomial of an algebraic element

The minimal polynomial of an algebraic element $\alpha$ over $K$ is the unique monic polynomial of least positive degree in $K[X]$ that vanishes at $\alpha$. It is irreducible, and its degree equals $[K(\alpha ):K]$.
