 Nef reaction

Conversion of a primary or secondary nitro-derived nitronate into a carbonyl compound by suitable hydrolytic conditions. The nitro-bearing carbon becomes an aldehyde carbon for a primary nitroalkane or a ketone carbon for a secondary one.
