The Frobenius norm gives

∣ F ∣^{2} = tr (F^{T} F) = \sum_{j} λ_{j}^{2}

. Write

J = det F > 0

. Since

cof F = J F^{- T}

, its singular values are

J / λ_{j}

, so

∣ cof F ∣^{2} = J^{2} \sum_{j} λ_{j}^{- 2} = λ_{2}^{2} λ_{3}^{2} + λ_{1}^{2} λ_{3}^{2} + λ_{1}^{2} λ_{2}^{2} .

Finally

det B = det F det F^{T} = J^{2}

. Therefore

I_{B} = ∣ F ∣^{2}, I I_{B} = ∣ cof F ∣^{2}, II I_{B} = (det F)^{2} .

These identities also give

I_{B} = tr B

and

I I_{B} = ((tr B)^{2} - tr (B^{2})) /2
