The spin-one-half quantum XX chain has equal nearest-neighbour transverse exchange. Its continuous spin rotation symmetry conserves total longitudinal magnetization. The Jordan–Wigner transformation maps it to number-conserving free fermions. This quantum chain is distinct from the classical XY model.
