 Shine-Dalgarno sequence

A Shine-Dalgarno sequence is a bacterial messenger-RNA element that can pair with the anti-Shine-Dalgarno region of small-subunit ribosomal RNA to position initiation. Base pairing within the messenger RNA can make the element unavailable.
