 Slowness

Slowness is the reciprocal of phase velocity, measured in time per distance. A plane wave with wavevector $\mathbf{k}$ and angular frequency $\omega$ has vector slowness $\mathbf{p}=\mathbf{k}/\omega$. Its direction is the wavefront normal, which need not be the group velocity direction in an anisotropic medium.
