Vortex (fluid mechanics)
ID: vortex-fluid-mechanics
A fluid vortex is a region in which velocity field circulates about an axis or center. Vorticity measures local rotation, while circulation measures the integral of velocity around a closed path. A phase vortex is instead a topological defect defined by winding of an order parameter; superfluid examples connect the two notions.
