 White-dwarf mass--orbital-period relation

Stable envelope stripping of a low-mass red giant leaves a helium white dwarf. Because the giant radius is determined mainly by its core mass and fixes its Roche-lobe radius at detachment, the final binary orbital period is tightly related to the white-dwarf mass.
