Word problem for groups
ID: word-problem-for-groups
For a fixed finitely generated group with specified generators, its word problem asks for an algorithm deciding whether an input word represents the identity. For a finitely presented group, positive answers can be enumerated from the relators, but there need not be an algorithm deciding both positive and negative answers. An effective reduction from a nonrecursive halting set proves unsolvability.
Word problems for groups typically involve scenarios where you need to solve for quantities related to a group of items or individuals. They often require understanding relationships between the items or people in the group, applying mathematical concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division. Here are a few examples: ### Example 1: Classrooms **Problem:** In a school, there are 3 classrooms. Each classroom has 24 students.
