A diffracted beam or powder peak associated with a reciprocal-lattice vector satisfying the elastic scattering condition. Its position follows from lattice spacings and its amplitude from the unit-cell structure factor. A reciprocal point whose structure factor vanishes does not produce an allowed reflection in the kinematic model.
