If π is the character of C[X], then Burnside lemma applied to the diagonal action on X×X gives
⟨π,π⟩G=∣G∣1∑g∈G∣Xg∣2=∣G\(X×X)∣.

For a transitive action X≃G/H, this also equals the number of double cosets in H\G/H.
