For ψc=CψˉT, use a unitary charge-conjugation matrix with C−1γ0C=−(γ0)T and Hermitian γ0 of square one. The Dirac adjoint then satisfies
ψc=ψT(γ0)∗C−1γ0=−ψTC−1.

If the unitary charge conjugation operator sends ψ to ηCψc, it sends ψˉ to −ηC∗ψTC−1. Antisymmetry CT=−C also gives (ψc)c=ψ. The unitary operator acting on fields is not an antiunitary operator acting on numerical coefficients.
