The long-wavelength root of the degenerate-plasma dielectric response. Expanding its logarithm at large s=ω/(kvF) gives ϵ=1−ωp2/ω2−3ωp2k2vF2/(5ω4)+⋯. The occupied Fermi sphere has ⟨v∥2⟩=vF2/5, accounting for the dispersive coefficient. The static electron response instead defines the Thomas-Fermi screening length vF/(3ωp).
