For a strongly convex rational cone σ, the group generated by S=σ∨∩M is M. Inverting its finitely many monomial generators gives k[M], so Speck[M] is a dense open algebraic torus in Speck[S]. The map χm↦χm⊗χm extends torus multiplication to the entire variety.
