Pairwise disjoint subcubes of {0,1}m fixing d1​,…,dn​ coordinates satisfy ∑x=1n​2−dx​≤1. By Jensen inequality, their average codimension is at least log2​n. Consequently a separating family of disjoint set pairs of total incidence at most λmn, with λ>0, has m≥⌈log2​n/λ⌉.
