For a nonnegative, radially nonincreasing spherical mass density, Ω2=GM(r)/r3 and κ2=Ω2+4πGρ(r). Since ρ(r) does not exceed the mean enclosed density, the radial epicyclic frequency lies between Ω and 2Ω. General axisymmetric disks need not satisfy this bound.
