For a spatially flat FLRW metric containing conserved pressureless matter and radiation in cosmology, with a0=1 and conformal time zero at the Big Bang, the Friedmann equation gives a′2=H02(ΩM,0a+ΩR,0). Separating the positive square root gives the displayed scale factor. At matter-radiation equality, aeq=ΩR,0/ΩM,0 and ηeq=2(2−1)ΩR,0/(H0ΩM,0). Here the prime denotes differentiation with respect to η, not cη.
