Vascular endothelial growth factor Created 2026-10-31 Updated 2026-11-05
Vascular endothelial growth factor, commonly abbreviated VEGF, denotes a family of signaling proteins with major roles in vascular development and remodeling. Binding to the appropriate receptors changes endothelial-cell behavior, including growth, survival or movement.
Its effect depends on location, timing and receptor context. A spatially organized signal can guide construction of a network, whereas simply increasing the concentration everywhere need not create correctly patterned functional blood vessels.
