For a transverse complex velocity amplitude u^ and real nonzero wavevector k, write u^=a+ic. Solenoidality makes both real vectors perpendicular to k, so 21Re(iu^∗×u^)=−a×c=Hk. The corresponding spatial average of kinetic helicity density is −Hk2. Cross-product order determines this sign.
