Inorganic polymer

A polymer whose backbone includes elements other than a carbon-only chain. Backbone composition alone does not determine electrical conductivity or hydrolytic stability.

Polymeric sulfur nitride, $(\mathrm{SN}{)}_x$, with a sulfur–nitrogen backbone and metallic electronic conduction in crystalline samples. Real band structure, packing and defects matter beyond a simple repeat-unit electron count.
