For a rapidly decreasing KdV potential and a normalized bound-state eigenfunction, integration of the Wronskian identity over the real line gives λ˙n=0. Thus every discrete eigenvalue λn=−κn2 is constant.

Isospectrality of the KdV discrete spectrum
If φn(x,t)∼cn(t)e−κnx as x→+∞, the time equation Q=0 gives
cn′(t)=4κn3cn(t),
(1)
and hence cn(t)=cn(0)e4κn3t.
