For G=⟨a,t∣ta2t−1=a3⟩, the surjective endomorphism θ(a)=a2, θ(t)=t has nontrivial kernel by Britton's lemma. The commutator subgroup is generated by ai=tiat−i for i∈Z. For j>i, its defining relations give aj2j−i=ai3j−i. Hence θk([ai,aj])=1 whenever k≥j−i. The union of the increasing kernels is normal, and the images of all ai commute in its quotient, proving the first inclusion. The second follows from finite residual contains surjective endomorphism kernels applied to every iterate.
