John Clarke coauthored experiments testing quantum mechanics through a macroscopic superconducting electrical circuit. In 1985, a current-biased Josephson junction exhibited quantized levels of its phase difference, with positions predicted from independently measured classical circuit parameters. The experiment connected precision electrical measurement with the discrete spectrum of a collective circuit coordinate.[ref]
