For the convention Dμ=∂μ+gAμ, a gauge group transformation Φ↦RΦ acts on the gauge potential by Aμ↦RAμR−1−g−1(∂μR)R−1. The gauge field strength transforms by conjugation. This makes DμΦ transform in the same gauge group representation as Φ.
