A nonminimal scalar coupling includes an interaction between the field and spacetime curvature, such as −ξRΦ2 in the Lagrangian density. The Euler-Lagrange field equation for L=−21(∇Φ)2−ξRΦ2 is □Φ−2ξRΦ=0. The coefficient is convention dependent: an action written with −21ξRΦ2 has ξ instead of 2ξ.
