Let xzp=ℏ/(2mω) and η=x0/(2xzp). The normalized first-order truncation is (∣0⟩+η∣1⟩)/1+η2. Its mean displacement is 2ηxzp/(1+η2), agreeing with x0 only at small ∣η∣. The exact translated ground state is a coherent state whose expansion contains all number states and has mean occupation η2. Correct linear response does not justify extrapolating a truncated state to large fields.
