For the three-dimensional isotropic harmonic oscillator, substituting Xi=ℏ/(2μω)(Ai+Ai†) and Pi=iμℏω/2(Ai†−Ai) into Li=εijkXjPk gives Li=−iℏεijkAj†Ak. On the first-excited Cartesian states ∣j⟩=Aj†∣0⟩, this is the three-dimensional vector representation and L2∣j⟩=2ℏ2∣j⟩, so the whole first-excited level has orbital quantum number ℓ=1.
