The largest normal p-subgroup of a finite group. Products of normal p-subgroups are again normal p-subgroups, since ∣AB∣=∣A∣∣B∣/∣A∩B∣. Thus the subgroup generated by all such subgroups is itself a p-subgroup. It is a characteristic subgroup.
