A function is a differentiable function at a0=(a,b) if there is a linear map L:R2→R with
f(a0+h)=f(a0)+Lh+r(h),∥h∥r(h)⟶0(h→0).
(1)
The map L=Dfa0 is its derivative; equivalently L(h1,h2)=Ah1+Bh2 for fixed constants. Since every such linear map is bounded, ∣f(a0+h)−f(a0)∣≤∥L∥∥h∥+∣r(h)∣→0. This proves differentiability implies continuity, not merely continuity along each coordinate axis.
