For independent identically distributed positive holding times Si, define T0=0, Tn=∑i=1nSi and the renewal count Xt=max{n:Tn≤t}. With 0<μ=ES1<∞, the renewal strong law is Xt/t→1/μ almost surely. The elementary renewal theorem is m(t)/t→1/μ, where m(t)=EXt. More generally the rate is zero when the mean holding time is infinite, under the usual nonexplosion assumptions.
