Expand the translated cyclotomic polynomial:
T(1+T)p−1=p+(2p)T+⋯+(p−1p)Tp−2+Tp−1.
(1)
Every nonleading coefficient is divisible by p, and the constant term is not divisible by p2. The polynomial is Eisenstein, hence irreducible. Its root λ=ζp−1 is a uniformizer of E=Qp(ζp), and the Eisenstein polynomial valuation criterion gives
[E:Qp]=e(E/Qp)=p−1.
(2)
Thus this local cyclotomic extension is totally ramified.
