The Euler equations for an inviscid fluid are ∂tv+(v⋅∇)v=−∇p/ρ+f. Here the vorticity is 2Ωez, and direct differentiation gives (v⋅∇)v=−Ω2(x,y,0), whose curl vanishes. Taking the curl therefore gives
2Ω˙ez=∇×f=(γ−β)ez,
(1)
so
Ω˙=2γ−β.
(2)
For constant force coefficients and the initial rest condition, Ω(t)=(γ−β)t/2. Only the antisymmetric part of the horizontal force gradient generates rotation; its symmetric part is balanced by pressure.
