For pressureless matter and zero cosmological constant, the Friedmann acceleration equation gives a¨/a=−4πGρ/3. The deceleration parameter therefore satisfies the dust relation between deceleration and density, q=4πGρ/(3H2). Evaluating today,
ρ0=4πG3H02q0.
(1)
Substitute this into the present Friedmann equation to obtain H02+kc2/a02=2q0H02, or
a02kc2=(2q0−1)H02.
(2)
In particular, q0>1/2, q0=1/2, and q0<1/2 correspond to positive, zero, and negative spatial curvature.
