At α=1, the phase is −x+sinx=−x3/6+O(x5), so the ordinary nonstationary endpoint formula fails. In the degenerate endpoint in Laplace's method, take x=λ−1/3t and extend the localized integral to infinity:
f(λ,1)∼λ−1/3∫0∞e−t3/6dt=3λ1/361/3Γ(1/3).
(1)
The last equality follows by u=t3/6. It is the ν=0 value of the cubic Laplace transition integral after its normalization is rescaled to the coefficient 1/6.
