An almost complex structure is a smooth bundle endomorphism J:TM→TM with J2=−I. It is an ω-compatible almost complex structure when
ω(Jv,Jw)=ω(v,w),ω(v,Jv)>0(v=0).
(1)
These conditions make gJ(v,w)=ω(v,Jw) a Riemannian metric. In particular it is symmetric: invariance and J2=−I give ω(Jv,w)=−ω(v,Jw), and skew-symmetry then gives gJ(w,v)=gJ(v,w). Positivity is the second condition. Moreover J is an isometry for gJ. Compatibility does not require that the almost complex structure be integrable.
